NETTER'S ATLAS OF HUMAN ANATOMY

Frank H. Netter was a surgeon and medical illustrator in the 1930s whose anatomical illustrations are still used by medical students today. Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy is Elsevier's flagship medical title. Elsevier's primary goal in translating their most successful print product into a digital product was to create an interactive study tool that would meet the modern med student's needs. Challenges and Solutions

The publishing team at Elsevier wished to create a study tool for anatomy students that integrates the original print text and images with additional digital resources previously accessible only through the publisher's website. Because this was a print textbook that normally would be read through linearly, they also wished to provide the user alternative, nonlinear ways to access the content.

+ The original print content was enhanced by the addition of links to related Plates to each illustration Plate, and the addition of a self-study function (the Test Yourself function toggles labels "on" and "off") to each Plate.

+ A separate Learning Resources section was created to give users one place to access all additional digital resources. This section includes bonus text material, videos, and assessment activities.

+ Landing pages for each section of content now have a "visual TOC," a grid of thumbnail images which are linked to the original content. The benefit is that the user can visually select what content they wish to view as an alternative to going through the content linearly, or by choosing from a text-oriented Table of Contents.
